Amy + MTHFR Coaching

I’m so glad you’re here.

I love working one on one with clients for MTHFR coaching and methylation coaching when courses, group coaching, the podcast, and the community aren’t enough. I recommend starting with group coaching when possible because it gives you the most amazing chances for success – it combines the best of education with guided action and one-on-one fine tuning. For many people, a course is all you really need to get your journey started in the right direction, or you can listen to the podcast and make the changes you need to.

There are some situations when it just makes sense to have one-on-one help. It is important that our goals align, so use the following information to see if we sound like a good fit to work together.

We’re a great fit if:

  • You have MTHFR, other polymorphisms, or a condition that has been hard for your doctors to untangle.
  • You are willing to make some changes in your life to get results.
  • You understand that you didn’t get here overnight and it will probably take some time to get you back to health.
  • You like humor mixed with your health care and enjoy sharing a laugh.
  • You want to take charge of your health with expert guidance (rather than have someone else take charge of your health. This is your journey).
  • You’re sensitive to supplements (I am, too. I understand.)

We’re NOT a great fit if:

  • You aren’t ready to make changes. No judgement, I get it, but maybe wait until you have more bandwidth to start this.
  • You want a miracle pill (of course you do!) Realistically, by the time people find me it’s usually more complicated than that
  • You want me to be primary care for you (I can’t- I’m not local and can’t order lab work for you).
  • You prefer your health practitioners to be serious all the time (I’m just not, I like to laugh.)
  • You’re working with eight other health practitioners and trying to balance all of those protocols. Working on too many things at once slows down progress, so it’s better to wait until you’re ready to focus on this.

My goal is to help you take steps today that will help you get the energy you need, boost your wellbeing, prevent long-term health consequences, and give you control over how you feel.

*All Visits Scheduled In Eastern Standard Time*

If you’re ready to get on the schedule and don’t need a free meet-and-greet appointment, or if you’re a returning client, you can use the schedule below. If you’re new to the practice, I’ll email you to see what package you want and take care of the billing.

I have a compound heterozygous MTHFR mutation, and working on methylation changed my life. I want to help you change yours, too.

FAQs About One-on-One Health Coaching for MTHFR

What Can I Expect The First Visit?

In the first visit I want to learn absolutely everything I can about you. We’ll talk it all out, including your health history, lifestyle, self-care, and emotional well-being. We’ll also talk about your biggest life stressors, your resources, and your real life, because telling you to eat kale three times a day would probably help your health, but who could (or would?) possibly do it? It is important to me to find steps forward that are workable for you – that work in your real life (not the fantasy if-I-was-doing-everything-right life) and that will make your self care better, not just harder. This visit usually lasts one-and-a-half hours for adults and an hour for kiddos under 10.

After the first visit, it is ideal to follow up every 4-6 weeks until we are sure you are moving in the right direction (expect 1-2 regular visits in most cases, more if we’re facing some challenges) and then we can follow up as needed.

How Should I Prepare For My First Visit?

  • When we schedule your first visit you will get an email appointment confirmation from the electronic health records software that I use, which is charm tracker or charm health. Attached to this email will be a new client intake form and a consent form.
  • Fill out the two forms before our first meeting.
  • Upload any recent/relevant lab work, and be sure you change the settings so that it is shared with me (for whatever reason this isn’t automatic).
  • If your health history is complex, consider writing a timeline that we can use to organize that first visit.
  • If you take a lot of medications or supplements, upload a list of those to the portal or email it to me: amy @ tohealthwiththat.com

How Will We Meet?

Phone, Skype, or Zoom. Whichever you prefer.

What Does It Cost?

I have switched to a package model to make sure clients who choose to work with me are committed to making changes and doing the work. What is the Goal?

The goal is always to help you feel better with the fewest, simplest changes. I want you to understand the steps we take and why we’re taking them and to give you practical solutions that work in real life (not just if you can follow a 40-step program). Above all, I want you to understand yourself and to be able to make good health decisions moving forward with or without me. I will always be in your corner, but your health is yours alone and I want to give you all the tools to take care of it well.

Do I Need Fancy Lab Work or Genetic Testing?

No – none of this is necessary. With MTHFR and related mutations, often we can assume that there is either a gene SNP or that the gene is not functioning properly without the testing. Generally, it is helpful to have regular lab work from your primary care physician (tests like complete blood count, metabolic panel, TSH for thyroid function, homocysteine if you can get it), but specialized labs aren’t necessary and if there is an issue that may need further lab work, Dr. Amy will send you back to your primary care for that. In terms of genetic testing, sometimes if we hit a wall or can’t find the answer to a problem then it’s a good idea to dive into your gene SNPs and see if we can find some answers, but often your symptoms tell us everything we need to know.

If I do Get Genetic Testing, What Do You Recommend?

There are an incredible variety of genetic tests out there, but my favorite way to test is by using a common gene test from ancestry.com or 23andme.com. These websites will not necessarily give you the answers you’re looking for by themselves, but you can download a raw data file and then use other services to deep dive into specific issues. For MTHFR and methylation, I really love the methylation panel from geneticgenie.org, and that same data can be used for so many other great tests as well, like the Strategene test, or gene reports from genetic life hacks. These common genetic tests give you the raw data you need for a wealth of future testing if necessary.

About Amy

I’m also a mom, a wife, and an overmethylator who writes novels and makes my own soap. I’m nerdy like that. I posted a video about my own journey with MTHFR below.

I have been helping people with their health since 2003. I had an integrated wellness center in Austin, TX, taught at both the masters and doctoral levels, and co-hosted a number of radio shows. Right now I’m thrilled to host the To Health With That! podcast and an amazing community called Genetic Rockstars designed to help MTHFR folks to connect, share stories, and become better.
